[GHASSAN] With MG also, a lot of times if you have long hair and it’s all over your face, sometimes you don’t have that strength in your arm to raise and start to remove the hair.
[MATILDE] There are short styles that men can do so that they can just run in and out of the shower, and go about their day?
[GHASSAN] Yeah. Exactly.
[MATILDE] What do you think some of those styles are?
[GHASSAN] There is the buzzcut, which is very easy. It’s very, very short on top and skin-fade on the side. There is also a new trend right now. It’s a crop top. Basically, it’s a bit longer on the top, but also very short on the side. It’s a skin fade on the side and very short on the top, but not as short as a buzzcut.
[MATILDE] For men that have beards and for people that actually don’t have maybe the hot brush or anything, are there any products that you would recommend that men use?
[GHASSAN] Yes, of course. There is the beard balm that people could use. It’s basically a mix of a little bit of beard oil and beard butter. When you use the beard balm, it helps straighten out the beard that it like won’t be out of control.
[ALEECE] My morning routine normally is I just kind of put my hair up and run out the door. I don’t have too much time or energy to do my hair too much, so braids are very quick and accessible. But styling I don’t do too much of.
[MATILDE] Do you find that a protective style, like your braids, is something that is not too heavy, and maybe it’s an easy way to get in and out of bed and just go to work?
[ALEECE] Yes. I find it very lightweight, just very easy. If anything, it’s still in a way styled, but maybe not how I’d like it. But it’s something for me.
[MATILDE] Do you find it very difficult to wrap your hair usually?
[ALEECE] It depends what day I have had. But maybe after a long day, my arms are pretty tired sometimes.
[MATILDE] Also, you mentioned that you love to wear your hair up.
[ALEECE] Yes, I do. It’s a lot more easy-maintenance style. Sometimes it’s still very lightweight, but to get my hair out of the way sometimes.
[MATILDE] What is the way that you like to put your hair up? Is there any particular way that you like to do it so it’s easier? I know that you mentioned your hands get a little bit tired.
[ALEECE] Yeah, just a quick bun maybe, it’s the quickest and more effective.
[MATILDE] Do you usually… when you do it, do you throw your head over, or do you kind of gather your hair up?
[ALEECE] I just gather my hair up at once.
[MATILDE] Would you mind if I tried it on you?
[ALEECE] Of course.
[MATILDE] I’m just going to add some oil to my hands just to catch all the frizz. I usually like to take bigger sections, and let me know if I’m pulling your hair.
[ALEECE] No, you’re good. You’re good. I really do appreciate you helping me. Sometimes it’s nice to have help every now and then because it does get hard. My arms get tired, so it’s really helpful.
[MATILDE] You are very welcome. Is there anybody… do you live with someone or is it…?
[ALEECE] Yes. I still live with my parents.
[MATILDE] Oh, yay!
[ALEECE] Yeah, they’re really helpful for me sometimes.
[MATILDE] Oh, that’s really great.
[ALEECE] Yeah, hairstyling in and out of the shower at times.
[MATILDE] That’s amazing. I’m glad that you have help and you have people that you can count on.
[ALEECE] Thank you.
[MATILDE] How long do you usually keep your braids in for?
[ALEECE] About a month or two. It just depends. I just go day-to-day by my energy and how I’m feeling. I kind of feel it out first if anything.
[MATILDE] Do you usually like a high bun?
[ALEECE] Yeah, I love a high bun.
[MATILDE] I mean, who doesn’t? Also, you said that you usually don’t wear a hair tie or anything. It just kind of molds itself.
[ALEECE] Yeah. No, it just stays. Yeah.
[MATILDE] I’m going to show you a mirror. See if you like it.
[ALEECE] Oh, no. It looks great.
[MATILDE] Usually, I also like on times like this, like after I put it up, I kind of like mold it into what I like it to do. Your hair stays really well, so that’s amazing. Then even like if a braid is kind of like sticking out, just hide it.
[ALEECE] I like the messy look either or, but it looks great. Thank you.
[MATILDE] You’re welcome.
